Holistic Care?

Do you practice Holistic Care , (Dr. Karen Becker) ?? Thank you.
  • Paris Veterinary Associates Kenda, we're not exclusive holistic care veterinarian to the extent as you mentioned with Dr. Karen Becker. What we try to do is incorporate a balanced level of care or for all pets which in some cases includes therapies that fall into the "holistic" category. For example, when we perform back surgeries, or other orthopedic surgeries we encourage patients to see an acupuncturist, or have cold laser therapy performed. We also have a hydrotherapy tank to facilitate certain therapy such as weight loss, and post operative recovery. I believe too much of anything can be bad for you and that's where I use the term "balance." I have had many patients over the years be misled and given false hopes using alternative therapies which we KNOW have no scientific merit, or therapeutic benefits other than possibly a placebo effect on the owner. Meanwhile I watch the patient painfully deteriorate. I do believe in a balanced mix of Eastern and Western medicine when and where appropriate. I try to stay away from extreme ideologies on both sides of the table, and I rarely venture right away into the latest and greatest new drug or therapy or remedy. I believe in the scientific method and I believe in my veterinarian oath "Above all else do no harm." I hope that helps you.

Hello, Dr. O' Bryan, I want to once again thank you for your extended amount of time yesterday and all your efforts in making certain you did the best you could for Skipper. I medicated and fed him about 1:00am, got up and checked on him again about 4:00-his eyes were brighter, he appeared to be feeling better, and I went to bed with cautious optimism, setting my alarm for 9:00am in order to get up and take care of him and get his medication on time. My son had found him around 8:00am, dead in his cage. I really thank you for the Buprenex injection, I feel like that at least gave him some relief and he wasn't in pain or suffering at that point and that helps a little bit. I think you are an amazing doctor and you seem to genuinely care for your patients, as well as your clients-you went above and beyond. I really hope to get the chance to work with you in the near future, in any capacity. Thanks again, the McCloud family
